Regional Director Governance, Compliance and Risk

Regional Director Governance, Compliance and Risk

  • Auckland CBD, Auckland
  • Full Time

The Opportunity:

This is a rare chance to take on a nationally significant leadership role where governance, compliance, and risk management intersect with purpose.

You’ll be helping shape and protect the future of an organisation committed to developing the next generation, one that reaches across New Zealand and touches hundreds in the community.

With a strong board network, a complex regulatory landscape, and a direct link to real outcomes for young people, this is a role with both strategic reach and social relevance.

If you're looking for a position where your influence goes beyond frameworks and policies, and into the real world, this could be it!

The Company:

This is a values-led, future-focused organisation making a genuine impact on the lives of young New Zealanders.

Their network spans the country, underpinned by a mission to deliver quality education in a safe, supportive, and well-governed environment.

With strong leadership and a stable operational foundation, they’re now looking for a senior governance and compliance leader to continue lifting the bar and embedding best practice across their national footprint.

The Role:

As Regional Director of Governance, Risk, and Compliance, you’ll take a strategic lead on shaping and maintaining strong governance practices across the organisation’s boards and operational teams.
You’ll work closely with senior leaders and local boards to:

  • Champion best-practice compliance in areas like privacy, child protection, WHS, and procurement
  • Build governance capability across a network of board members through training and system improvements
  • Drive continuous improvement and audit readiness via smart policies, practical tools, and aligned frameworks
  • Collaborate with other departments to support infrastructure and procurement compliance
  • Provide clear reporting and insights to stakeholders and regulatory bodies
While this role is strategic in scope, it’s also hands-on. You’ll be the kind of person who’s just as comfortable writing a board paper as you are jumping in to solve a compliance gap or mentor a board chair.

About You:

You’re a senior governance, risk, and compliance professional who’s led complex portfolios in regulated environments, possibly in education, government, health, infrastructure, or similar sectors. You’re motivated by structure and standards, but what really drives you is the impact of doing things well, especially when it contributes to something bigger than yourself.

You bring:

  • Significant GRC leadership experience in large, structured organisation/s
  • Expertise in policy, risk, privacy, and compliance frameworks
  • Board-level communication and influencing skills
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset
  • High integrity, humility, and a collaborative leadership style

Above all, you’re someone who wants their work to matter, and you’re ready to contribute to something that does.
