Position Description

We are seeking expressions of interest and applications from experienced directors with a strong finance and risk lens to join the board at Napier Port in the capacity of Chair of Audit and Risk. 

Napier Port, located in Hawke’s Bay, operates under a mixed ownership. The company is majority-owned by the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council (HBRC) through its investment arm, Hawke’s Bay Regional Investment Company Ltd (HBRIC), and has a 45% public shareholding following partial listing on the NZX in 2019. Publicly listed governance expertise will be highly regarded. Audit & Risk committee experience will be essential. 

The port has firmly established itself as the leading port and regional gateway for central New Zealand and has a strong regional and strategic positioning in the New Zealand port sector. You will be joining a highly experienced board. Your contribution will see you providing governance stewardship and contributing to the future strategic direction of the company and the central New Zealand economy as Napier Port moves through this next phase of growth and commercial alignment.


Ideal Applicant

There is a strong desire to bring in candidates who have held directorships in entities with significant scale and who possess deep commercial and financial acumen. A proven record of growing shareholder value is a real priority. Deep finance knowledge from banking, financial and investment markets will be of real interest in this selection process. Expertise in guiding and steering finance, audit and risk management agendas, frameworks and decisions is fundamental. Additional leadership and governance competencies and experience relating to infrastructure and long-life assets, logistics, infrastructure development / engineering, and technology will be well regarded. 

You will be actively involved in the strategic direction of Napier Port. and a key point of contact for executives and key external stakeholders. Being based in Hawke’s Bay or residing in a location that is a single flight from Hawke's Bay airport will be material in this selection process.
