About us

Te Tari Pūreke - Firearms Safety Authority is New Zealand's Firearms Regulator. Our Vision is to ensure the possession and use of firearms in Aotearoa is the safest in the world.

To achieve this, Te Tari Pūreke delivers four core functions: effectively implementing the firearms licensing systems; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people to enable compliance with their legislative responsibilities; and promoting the safe possession and lawful use of firearms.

We are committed to fostering a culture of safe and responsible firearms use, gun ownership and awareness by working collaboratively with the firearms community, our stakeholders, and fellow agencies.

About the role

The Assurance Advisor will aid in the building and maintaining of the Assurance programme for re-occurring activities, support the chair (Assurance Manager) with the regular risk management governance meetings, support the wider organisation on operational privacy matters, and tracks risk mitigation activities to keep the organisation safe, and enable people working for Te Tari Pūreke to "do the right thing".

A strong focus of the Assurance Advisor position is working alongside the different business teams and managers to aid in maturing a culture where everyone understands and takes responsibility for managing risk.

Key Deliverables:

  • Work with managers and teams across Te Tari Pūreke to embed a culture where everyone understands and takes responsibility for managing risk.
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with districts, service centers, and all Te Tari Pūreke business groups.
  • Support the Assurance Manager with providing reporting on risk management activities that give effective monitoring and oversight by senior managers and leaders.
  • Ensures security and privacy related incidents are properly reported and registered and provide monthly analysis on these.
  • Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported in a timely fashion and support the investigations and endorsements of these.

We as the firearms regulator, collaborate closely with both the Ministry of Justice and NZ Police. The Ministry of Justice is responsible for policy advice and system oversight and NZ Police is responsible for law enforcement function.

Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $95,057.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
