About our Team
The Risk and Assurance Group provides independent assurance,advice and support to the Chief Executive, Leadership Team and other seniormanagement on the systems, processes, and controls that the Ministry relies onto deliver effective and efficient services to all New Zealanders. We are theprimary point of coordination and assessment across the Ministry's riskmanagement and internal control environment and play a lead role in providingassurance to the MSD Audit Committee, a range of control agencies andMinisters.
About the Role
As an Assurance specialist, you will engage with a diverserange of customers to deliver high quality operational and strategic advice.Your work will be diverse and challenging, and could take you across allfunctions of the Ministry with a focus on continuous improvement of policies,procedures and controls.You will be valued for your 'big picture' strategicthinking but most crucially you will drive a proactive partnership-basedapproach with clients to implement best practice across the areas of risk,assurance and governance.
You will be responsible for:
- Supporting the Manager Assurance Services in delivering highquality assurance services that are strategically focussed on areas of highestrisk or opportunity to add value.
- Conducting assurance assignments with minimal ongoing supervision, while also being able to work as part of a team in the delivery ofan assignment.
Skills and Experience
As a successful candidate, you will have:
- Excellent relationship management and inter-personal skillswith an ability to establish rapport, building and maintaining relationships atall levels across the Ministry, including senior management and across thesector and organisational boundaries.
- Excellent communication skills with highly developedlistening, questioning and facilitation skills and an ability to persuade andencourage others to act.
- Well-developed analytical and strategic thinking skills,with the ability to successfully analyse information to assess risk, control,mitigations and the wider context to draw valid conclusions including problemdefinition and resolution skills.
- Previous experience evaluating and assessing systems orprocesses to identify issues or concerns and develop recommendations (includingbut not limited to internal, external or performance audit, business process orperformance improvement or financial management).
- An understanding of the government and public sectorenvironment, systems, processes and strategic issues facing government and theMinistry.
