IIA NZ Topic: The Role of the Internal Auditor in the Detection of Corruption

Presenter: Ferdinand Balfoort

Ferdinand is a global professional advisor and academic in the areas of Impact/ ESG Advisory, governance, compliance and financial reporting. He is practically experienced in implementing and ensuring compliance with a wide range of international regulatory and stock exchange rules, as well as auditing and investigations. He lately focusses on the global challenge of climate change, at international, national and organisational levels. Ferdinand is working extensively on environmental technology solutions to achieve green technology symbiosis deployment, using UN SDG, IRIS and GIIN reporting frameworks, to guide and support the achievement of global climate goals and objectives.

He holds CIA certification in addition to being a CA and has been a member of IIA NZ and IIA USA since 1990. Ferdinand previously spent 25 years globally auditing and investigating on different continents, as a senior GRC partner or CAE. In 2012 he earned his Master of Commerce and Accounting at Victoria University of Wellington on the topic of corruption, culture and financial reporting in China and Indonesia, based on his work in those countries, which was followed by an AAAJ published academic article on culture and financial reporting in 2017 - available here.

Ferdinand continues his academic writing and is currently co-writing a planned international publication on fiscal frameworks and national environmental budgeting systems, as well as private sector organisation controls and financing, that need to be in place to achieve Paris Agreement climate objectives. He is a member with Delegated Authority to the Board of Transparency International New Zealand, specialising in corporate and environmental governance matters, and has worked with Transparency internationally since 1999.

ISACA Topic: Securing Your Databases: The Practical Realities

Presenter: Paul Morray

Paul is a current and 6 time IBM Champion for Analytics, a Db2 for z/OS - version 10 and 11 certified Database Administrator, as well as a Db2 for z/OS version 10 certified System Administrator, who is employed by Westpac New Zealand Limited, as a Snr DBA.

Paul was also been member of the Australasian IDUG Db2 Tech conference planning committee from 2011 to 2019, including being a Past Chair in 2015.

He has also previously presented/co-presented at numerous IDUG Conferences in Australia, the US and Europe as well as twice at IBM's Insight conference.

As well as being involved with Db2 as a DBA he has held roles as a programmer/developer, Technical Team Leader and as a Technical Specialist.
