Artificial Intelligence, Robotic Process Automation, Machine Learning, Digital Labour... there's a lot of jargon and buzz words flying around when it comes to the new technologies that can broadly be categorised as "Intelligent Automation". There's also a lot of hype about impending mass unemployment.

This talk will give an overview of what these technologies are and the benefits that organisations are seeing from their use. It will cover the possibility of job loss and the risks and opportunities that these new technologies present to Internal Audit and Risk professionals.

Presenter: Karl Arndt

Karl is the lead for KPMG NZ's cognitive technology and automation service line. Karl has nearly 15 years professional experience across electrical and electronic engineering, public sector leadership and, most recently, in the leadership team of KPMG's Management Consulting practice. Over this time, Karl has led a large number of change programmes that report to executives, Boards and Ministers. Additionally, Karl has been instrumental in establishing KPMG New Zealand's cognitive technology and automation offering, including leading the delivery of projects using these new technologies, both for clients and internal-to-KPMG. He has vast experience advising on and implementing robotic automation and other AI/machine learning technologies.

Karl has previously been responsible for leading a number of projects while serving in the Royal New Zealand Navy, including one major capital project approved by the Cabinet and two organisational change programmes, which resulted in cost reduction and an increase in effectiveness.
