Methods and Techniques for High Quality Data Analytics

Data analysis is a crucial pillar for any audit function. A company's data can take multiple forms and reside in various repositories, often with no convenient way to quantify and compare it. Without organisation and a reference framework, data alone is useless. In order to become useful information, data must be cultivated and prepared like any raw material. This course will help you develop the know-how to gather, clean and structure your data to create a solid base for information analysis. It covers techniques and methods you can use to gain insight and identify the diamonds among the dust.

This course will cover concepts and practical understanding on:

Data Wrangling:

  • Acquisition - Methods used to access and acquire data
  • Discovery - Getting to know your data by recognising patterns and correlations
  • Cleansing - Improving data hygiene by finding and removing inconsistencies
  • Structuring for Analysis - Data blending techniques for sorting, merging, joining and appending
  • Validation and Verification - Recalculating numeric fields, bounds, sequencing, gaps, masking to expected formats, statistics and profiling.
  • Normalisation - Sorting and standardising fields such as names of businesses, individuals, or addresses.

Data Analysis:

  • Hidden duplicates - Identifying duplicates caused by errors in data entry, scanning, transposition and split transactions.
  • Fuzzy matching - Finding matches through partially shared values such as addresses or duplicate names.
  • Outlier analysis - Utilising T&E categories
  • Circumventing protocols - Finding user workarounds such as splitting orders to avoid transaction limits.

This course is suitable for all user levels. It incorporates practical examples, case studies, and open discussion of participants' experiences to promote collaborative learning.

Online Classroom: The content delivered in the IIA-Australia online classroom format is the same as what would be delivered face-to-face.

This full one day training programme will be delivered in two 3 hour lessons over two consecutive days using Zoom. Registrations will be strictly limited to 12 participants to allow maximum interaction in the online environment.
