We are seeking a unique person to fill a specialist role. This role combines a background in custodial environments with expertise in risk and assurance.

This is a newly created role in a large complex organisation. It is a fantastic opportunity for someone seeking a challenge.

The Department has a team of monitors who provide assurance over contractual and legislative compliance of major suppliers delivering frontline services. This includes private prisons, prisoner escorts and court custodial services.

This role requires both management skills and an ability to develop and deliver risk assessments, assurance plans, assurance tools and provide executive level reporting. The Team Leader Monitors is responsible for the management of the Department’s Monitors and developing and delivering the associated assurance program.

To succeed in this role you should have frontline experience to a manager level, and be able to form strong relationships with our suppliers. This role will be based on site in a custodial environment, so experience working in this type of environment is essential.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Experience at a management level of developing and implementing assurance plans, programs, tools and techniques. As well as the ability to manage teams effectively.
  • Ability to analyse large amounts of data for trends, anomalies or exceptions and use this for reporting purposes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to self-manage and self-motivate
  • Knowledge and experience in issues associated with the criminal justice system
  • Proven ability to set and enforce clear standards and expectations with the Contractor and other parties as required.
  • An understanding that material gathered is confidential and sensitive. Some travel will be required in the wider Auckland and Northern region, as well as travel to National Office in Wellington for key meetings.
