The Corporate Solutions group is responsible for providing the majority of corporate and shared services within the new MSD corporate operating model. The Corporate Solutions operating model includes embedded corporate services for MSD, shared services and shared governance from MSD to the new Ministry for Vulnerable Children Oranga Tamariki, (Oranga Tamariki) the Social Policy and Evaluation Research Unit (Superu) and the Social Investment Unit (SIU) and a range of transitional embedded corporate functions to Oranga Tamariki.

About the Role

As an Assurance specialist, you will engage with a diverse range of customers to deliver high quality operational and strategic advice. Your work will be diverse and challenging, and could take you across all functions of the Ministry with a focus on continuous improvement of policies, procedures and controls. You will be valued for your ‘big picture’ strategic thinking but most crucially you will drive a proactive partnership-based approach with clients to implement best practice across the areas of risk, assurance and governance.

You will be responsible for:

  • supporting the Manager Assurance Services in delivering high quality assurance services that are strategically focussed on areas of highest risk or opportunity to add value.
  • conducting assurance assignments with minimal ongoing supervision, while also being able to work as part of a team in the delivery of an assignment.

Skills and Experience

As a successful candidate, you will have:

  • excellent relationship management and inter-personal skills with an ability to establish rapport, building and maintaining relationships at all levels across the Ministry, including senior management and across the sector and organisational boundaries
  • excellent communication skills with highly developed listening, questioning and facilitation skills and an ability to persuade and encourage others to act
  • well-developed analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to successfully analyse information to assess risk, control, mitigations and the wider context to draw valid conclusions including problem definition and resolution skills
  • previous experience evaluating and assessing systems or processes to identify issues or concerns and develop recommendations (including but not limited to internal, external or performance audit, business process or performance improvement or financial management)
  • an understanding of the government and public sector environment, systems, processes and strategic issues facing government and the Ministry.
