The Corporate Solutions group is responsible for providing the majority of corporate and shared services within the new MSD corporate operating model. The Corporate Solutions operating model includes embedded corporate services for MSD, shared services and shared governance from MSD to the new Ministry for Vulnerable Children Oranga Tamariki, (Oranga Tamariki) the Social Policy and Evaluation Research Unit (Superu) and the Social Investment Unit (SIU) and a range of transitional embedded corporate functions to Oranga Tamariki.

About our Team

Our Risk and Assurance team provides assurance, advisory and risk management services aimed at evaluating and improving the effectiveness of enterprise risk management, controls and governance processes in the Ministry. All services are designed to provide insight, add value and to improve the Ministry's operations and the likelihood that the Ministry's goals, objectives will be achieved.

About the Role

The Manager Assurance Services has responsibility for providing assurance that the core functions the Ministry relies on to support the delivery of its operations are fit for purpose and operating effectively. You will develop a risk based programme that provides assurance that policies, procedures and control systems are robust to manage the risks that the Ministry is exposed to, and that assets and resources are used effectively.

You will manage a team of Assurance specialists in the allocation of resources to assurance projects, track individual assurance projects and report on project status to the General Manager Risk and Assurance. Through the effective management of professional relationships with members of the Risk and Assurance Team, MSD senior staff and external agencies and organisations, you will build rapport and foster cooperation and support for Assurance strategies and programmes.

Skills and Experience

As a successful candidate, you will have:

  • an established record of leadership including good judgement, intellectual flexibility and originality, and the capacity to think strategically
  • a proven record of developing and effectively implementing organisational strategies and plans through teams and others in a complex and demanding environment
  • demonstrated experience at a senior level in providing assurance on risk management, operational and business improvement, internal controls and governance matters
  • demonstrated experience in the promotion and education of risk and internal control management practices at all levels of an organisation and the ability to use risk to drive the assurance work programme
  • excellent communication skills with an ability to persuade and encourage others
  • excellent analytical and problem solving skills – able to identify and define problems, provide resolutions, and make decisions through the exercise of sound and appropriate judgment – frequently in time pressured situations.
